Pandora FMS Team has released Pandora FMS 4.0.1. This version 4.0.1 is a minor release, which contains several fixes from 4.0 release and some new features:
- Native SNMP get and ping modules for Windows agent.
- Support for regular expressions in event log modules.
- New IPMI monitoring plugin.
- Some improvements in CLI.
- Added a new macro _plugin_parameters_ to alerts with the parameters os a plugin.
- Added a "force" mode to the server installer pandora_server_installer.
- Added the _data_ macro to event alerts.
- New web modules to read the contents of an HTTP request response.
- New "projection graph", "prediction date" and "group" reports.
- The report viewer allows the start date to be changed.
- Global and visual console specific auto-refresh intervals can be configured.
- Performance improvements to the SNMP explorer.

First v4 fixed version released

We have been applied a lot of fixes on Pandora FMS v4 and them are here now! The version include solutions to a security problem reported by http://ngenuity-is.com , crashes in the windows agent when remote configuration is active and some bugs more.

Pandroid agent v2.0 released

Last 7th Febrary, we released our first application in Android Market: Pandroid v1.0, the Pandora FMS Agent for Android. After some minor upgrades, now comes to android Market: PANDROID v2.0
What's new?
- Performance improved saving battery managing sensors
- Usability improved with different sections of configuration
- Crashes fixed
- Reporting of used and total memory of the device.
The full data reported for the agent now is:
- GPS coordinates (translated in human description by Google Maps api for reverse geocoding)

Fixed bug related to security issues

On August 22 Mehdi Boukazoula published a bug related to XSS. You can find more information at:

Pandora FMS Team have been working hard to fix the bug and nowadays we can say this error is fixed both in current version Pandora FMS 3.2.1 and in new Pandora FMS 4.0.

Pandora FMS 3.2.1 is available for download. This is a minor release, that means it contains mostly fixes and small features. Last major version was 3.2 in december last year.

Pandora FMS embedded agent

We have developed a specific agent for embedded devices, made in Posix C, aimed at devices with very little RAM, and can work with all types of processors (ARM, VIA ...). These kind of agentes should be able to run on any linux-embedded device. You can download the first version in Sourceforge, we have a compiled agent for ARM processors, and of course the C source code.
Pandora FMS Android agent: Pandroid !

We have published on Android market the new Pandora FMS agent for Android phones: Pandroid!. You can download from there or using the qbarcode provided here. This new agent, reports GPS information to the GIS system on Pandora, and also returns battery levels and compass information, among other sensor information like proxymity information.

Pandora FMS 3.2 is finally out! The Pandora FMS Project is pleased to announce the latest release of Pandora FMS two release candidates and months of testing. In 3.2 version you'll find more a lot of new features and bug fixes since last release, six months ago.
Pandora FMS 3.2 contains a long list of features including the following highlights.
- A new Web console for smartphones.
- Better dataserver performance.
- More powerful software agents (cron modules, conditional execution, concurrent checks, value propagation and more).

Our team worked very hard and all these problems are fixed from Pandora FMS 3.1.1 and latest versions.

Security patch for Pandora FMS 3.1

We have published a collection of security fixes and bug corrections on Pandora FMS console. This fix some bugs and security problems since the official release on May 2010. To update this version, just replace contents of tarball in your current Pandora FMS console. This patch is available for download at Sourceforge. To appy the patch, you can follow this procedure. Remember to make a copy of your config.php file.

New Redhat/CentOS RPM packages for Pandora FMS 3.1

Thanks to the help of our Japanese contributors Kikuchi and Junichi, we have been created a specific packages for RHEL plattforms, which differs a lot from the SUSE packages, not only on the RPM format, also on dependencies, paths, usernames, permissions, etc.
A new download section called "RPM Redhat" has been added to our download page on Sourceforge, with packages for Unix agent (perl), Server and Console.
Also, all dependencies not easily to find has been created as Redhat packages and added to the dependencies and tool section.
Packages has been tested on RHEL5 and CentOS5 with standard YUM repositories.

New windows agent, version 3.1 RC1
We've published a RC1 version of Windows Agent for 3.1 version. This agent has two major features since 3.0 version:
- Windows agent now can execute plugin agents, similar to the mechanism used in Unix agents. Two basic plugins has been provided (disk space and process table). Another plugin is published in the SVN repository, to parse event log and return a Log4x output format. All plugins has been developed in VBScript and are a good sample of the powerful behind the plugin agents architecture.
- Timeout can be defined for each module. This allow admin to specify seconds of execution for each module.
Also the 3.1 agent has been tested and works on ALL current windows plattform supported by Microsoft: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 2008, and Windows 7.

Roadmap update for v3.1 & v3.2

New features in Pandora FMS 3.0 Opensource
Pandora FMS Opensource has the following new features:
Higher escalation
Pandora FMS 3.0 is thought to monitor up to 100.000 modules with each server. This is possible thank to the new modules without historic data and due to the fact that the engine has been totally re-written.
Windows Agent Features
The 3.0 agent has lot of new features:
- It can run automatic actions when it detects a service or a process has crashed (watchdog mode).
- It listen in a specific port therefore it can receive remote commands from Pandora FMS web console.
- Native WMI queries locally in the agent.
- Performance Counter queries locally in agent.
- It is able to send data to another Pandora FMS server if it detects the main server is not available.
- New log parser admitting regular expressions.
- The Event Log parser has been rewritten, it works faster now.
- The data gathering project has been improved to handle much better the basic modules (hard disk, cpu and memory), now it can show percent data as soon as absolute HD and memory values.
- Packages buffer. If the main server where the agent has to send the data to is unavailable, it will "save" the packages and as soon as it becomes available send them back.
- TCP (local or remote) ports check
- Optional "on start" pause, to give some time to all the process and services to boot in case of a system reboot or crash.
Alerts
Alerts and correlation interface has been re-designed, now it is based in a templated-engine which gives the possibility to create and re-use the alerts in all the agents. The correlation engine has been re-written as well and it is now more flexible and easier to create correlation rules.
Event management improvement
Event management has been improved with new filters and some other new features.
Visual Console improvement
Now it is possible to define virtual objects, full agents and map auto creation from groups. Now is possible to show the data been gathered for the agent.
3 status for all the modules
Pandora FMS 3.0 modules have now status (NORMAL, WARNING and CRITICAL) for all its modules, having threshold value for each status (customizable for all the modules)
Plugin server is now Nagios Compatible
Pandora FMS 3.0 is able, now, to use, native, almost all Nagios Remote Plugins.
Interactive Graphs (flash)
All the report's graphs are more detailed and much more customizable, it is possible to change the colors of the shown values. It give a much professional aspect to the reports and they allow the user to "play" with their values in certain moments or certain parts of the graph.
New SNMP traps console
Pandora FMS 3.0 SNMP traps console will have the following features:
- Better trap description
- Traps criticity filtering
- Data source filtering
- Searches
- Visual improvements
CD Appliance
Pandora FMS 3.0 is available in a CD (including the OS, SUSE), so its deployment will be easy and quick, all in a wizard.
What is new in Pandora FMS 3.0 Enterprise
Besides Opensource new features, Pandora FMS Opensource has the following new features:
Policies
This feature is basically for corporation with lot of agents. These new policies included in the 3.0 version allows the user to distribute modules and alerts to group of agents. In addition it allows the user to view the information filtered by agents.
WEB Monitoring
By the network server + Goliath integration, Pandora FMS Enterprise is able to monitor web based applications, doing, for instance, availability, total navigation time, and doing complex webchecks such as authentication, filling forms, content changes etc. All done, as always, in a centralized interface, Pandora FMS' web one.
Dashboard
Pandora FMS 3.0 has a main page, being this, a Dashboard. Our dashboard is modules based and totally customizable with different screen and frames. Each page will contain different widgets such as reports, graphs, maps, metrics etc.
Inventory
A new systems and services inventory which will act as a system inventory, showing software and hardware in the monitored systems. It is possible to choose whether agent-less or agent-based configuration to get that data.
SNMP traps console improvement
Pandora FMS 3.0 Enterprise SNMP traps console has the following features:
- MIBs loader for traps definition
- Traps alias created by the user
OnLine Backup
Pandora FMS Enterprise have a backup tool integrated in the Webconsole, which will allow the administrator to create backups, restore backups or even download them. It is possible to schedule automatic backups.
Modules Library (For the software agent)
Besides from the remote module library, Pandora FMS will have a new library (update via Open Update Manager) with modules for all its software agents.
Secondary Database
Used to store historical long term data (several years), this is useful in large environments installations in case they need to keep lot of historical data.
CentOS/RHEL RPM packages
Apparently a problem of incompatibility in the default compression who uses rpmlib for OpenSUSE 11.x, made incompatible packets for CentOS 5.x and RHEL5.x systems. We recompiled the packages to be compatible with these systems and also the dependency package WMIC (WMI Client) (all the other dependencies could be obtained in official repos, rpmfind.net or pbone.net). Download links have been updated. The packages are the same version as their counterparts for SUSE. Thanks for your reporting!

Pandora FMS v3.0 RC2 has been released. This is a major upgrade from 2.0 version and includes a lot of new features and a surprising performance boost. This version is a Release-Candidate, this is similar to a beta version, but with months of testing done. Since RC1, one month ago we have fixed about 50 bugs.
This includes a new installation CD (Software appliance based on OpenSUSE11), an vmware/VirtualBox image, RPM packages, DEB packages and of course, source tarballs. Some files has not changed since RC1, like the Windows Installer (for our Windows agent), and the 360 page user manual in PDF.

Security vulnerability reported... and fixed!

Global Evolution, a security experts reported us some days ago several security vulnerabilities related with Cross Site Scripting (XSS) and other problems in the Web Console in development version (3.x). This has been fixed and code for 2.x it's reviewed to check if the same problem happen.
New file repository for RPM/DEB Packages in Pandora FMS 3.0 (development!)

We have setup a FTP with most recent RPM packages for current development version (3.0).
These packages has been built for OpenSUSE11, but with some work could be used to run on Fedora systems. All dependendencies not included in OpenSuse are also packaged. RPM specs are in the SVN source tree.
This directory also includes a "tarball" with "snapshots" of current 3.0 development.
We also publish a directory with current work for making a Debian .DEB packages, these are for 2.x version, and we need to adapt to new 3.0 specifications. Help will be appreciated.

We've got the official confirmation that Tentacle is now an IANA official registered application with port 41121/TCP assigned to tentacle. Just remember that Tentacle is the default mechanism of agent connection with Pandora FMS and tentacle is also another OpenSource project by the people who made Pandora FMS :-)

This is the first maintenance release for the stable Pandora FMS 2.x series. It's stable code from Pandora FMS 2.0 with the small fixes since November.
This is the changelog for Pandora FMS 2.1:
Agents
Linux and Windows agents:
- Supported async types on agents.
- Added support for multiple servers, so data could be sent to other if main server is not alive, or send a copy of information to another server.
- Included FTP transfer mode in the main agent.
- Tentacle client is now included and installed in the Linux package.
Windows agent
- Detect process or service shutdown in async mode (notify immediately).
- Agent could be managed from the console.
- New watchdog mode able to execute something when a process/service is down.
- Able to exec WMI queries from the agent with it's own specific module.
Servers
- Fixed several performance bugs in network server.
- Fixed a problem in Recon server who "hangs" a recon tasks and put CPU 100%.
- Fixes in the remote internal queue, so low latency modules run faster.
- SNMP queries are now done using system snmpget() call.
- Fixed behavior of KeepAlive module.
- Tentacle server is now included and installed in the installer.
Console
- Some fixes in reports (Monitor report).

Pandora FMS 2.0 final version Released

A problem with the Tentacle server has recently been discovered, which in certain situations of CPU and memory saturation plus a high number of connections, it closed the file transfering connection to Pandora FMS server without being finished. The problem can appear especially if Pandora FMS is installed under VMWare ESX, where the virtual image configuration has configured with not enogh memory and CPU reserved. We have updated Tentacle server both at the SVN and the tarball packages. We recommend to update the Tentacle file transfer server in case you have Pandora FMS installed at a virtual machine with many agents and/or modules.

Pandora FMS development team has released final 1.3.1 version on Sourceforge. This version comes with several new features in network server, better performance and stability and a new featured administration guide, with more than 140 pages in Spanish and English (PDF and online format). Pandora Development team on FOSDEM (Brussels 22-24 Feb 08)

Pandora FMS development team will be at Brussels this weekend, at the occasion of the Fosdem 2008 celebration. We will attend to the events of Friday 22 and Sunday 24. We will be easily recognized so we will be the only ones with a t-shirt with Pandora's logo, and also because we speak Spanish. We will be very pleased to talk with any who is interested in our project.
WEB Site new languages

With the help of some friends and Google translator :-) we have translated the main pages of our website to Russian, Chinese and French. Help needed to make a "correct" translations of that languages and to make new ones (German, Portuguese, Dutch...).

We're working on the next generation of Pandora, 1.3.1 branch (stable) is a continuation of work in 1.3.x series. It is near to beta testing, and it's very stable. It implements some minor new features and solves a lot of bugs detected on previous versions. ArticaST, company that leads Pandora FMS development, is present at SIMO 2007, the biggest computer show in Spain. We are on stand 1B237 in hall 1.
Pandora FMS 1.3 Final version Released

This is almost identical to last beta, and only includes two minor fixes from beta3. After four months of betatesting we think that Pandora FMS 1.3 is solid as a rock Smile. It has been tested in several enviroments and runs without problems on several Linux distributions.
Some of the new features since last version are:
- New visual console. Allows to create custom hierarchical views with graphical components.
- Whole console graphical redesign. This includes tab navigation and other important changes for usability and better layout.
- New report builder. It manage reports with different componentes (SLA, Graph, Event report, max, min, avg. values, etc).
- Big performance improvement in all graphic generation because a rewrite of core graphical functions
- New Pandora FMS recon server, able to manage network sweep with unlimited sensors. New hosts are detected and monitored inmediatly.
- Added FTP support to windows agent and unix agents.
- Alerts now support text alerting using regular expressions.

Console and Server tarball packages has been uploaded to sourceforge. Beta3 for Windows Agent has been released three weeks ago, and there is no beta3 for Unix agents because there's no change from Beta2. You can download it at: Sourceforge

Pandora FMS Windows Agent 1.3 Beta

The new 1.3 Beta Version of the Pandora FMS Windows Agent is now available. This version is basically a 1.2.1 version with some bugs fixed, we have tested it for two months and works fine for us ("Pirata" in our public demo). This version is fully compatible with Pandora FMS Server 1.2 and the forthcoming 1.3 version, so it should work fine for 90% of people.
It solves some problems in the 1.2 version, so we encourage everybody to install it and replace the 1.2 version. If you find any problem, you can report it at Openideas.

Thanks to Igor Zubiaurre we have our entire web site tranlated to german. He is working also translating documentation for next version, so for next version, English, German and Spanish documentation will be available!
