Tentacle server is not working // Verify that port 41121 is not used.
#1
Hey guys,

i am very new to the subject above. I just started working with pandory and took over an existing installation of pandora fms.

System: CentOS release 6.10 (Final)
Pandora FMS: v6.0SP6
Tentacle_Server: V0.6.0

I don't know what i am doing wrong. If i use service tentacle_serverd start i got the following output:

Unknown option: l
Usage: /usr/bin/tentacle_server -s <storage directory> [options]

Tentacle server v0.6.0. See ***openideas link here*** for protocol description.

Options:
-a ip_addresses IP addresses to listen on (default 0,0.0.0.0).
(Multiple addresses separated by comma can be defined.)
-c number       Maximum number of simultaneous connections (default 10).
        -d              Run as daemon.
-e cert         OpenSSL certificate file. Enables SSL.
-f ca_cert      Verify that the peer certificate is signed by a ca.
        -h              Show help.
        -i              Filters.
-k key          OpenSSL private key file.
-m size         Maximum file size in bytes (default 2000000b).
        -o              Enable file overwrite.
-p port         Port to listen on (default 41121).
-q              Quiet. Do now print error messages.
-r number       Number of retries for network opertions (default 3).
        -S (install|uninstall|run) Manage the win32 service.
-t time         Time-out for network operations in seconds (default 1s).
        -v              Be verbose.
-w              Prompt for OpenSSL private key password.
        -x pwd          Server password.
-b ip_address   Proxy requests to the given address.
-g port         Proxy requests to the given port.
        -T              Enable tcpwrappers support.
(To use this option, 'Authen::Libwrap' should be installed.)

Tentacle Server could not be started.
Verify that port 41121 is not used.

Can you try to help me and tell me what i am doing wrong?

I just started a netstat to see if the port is being used but i couldn't find anything.
Where do i need to start debugging?

Sorry for my bad english, german guy here! Smile

Good afternoon pandoranewb,

First of all we highly recommend you to use the latest version of Pandora FMS (730) in a CentOS 7 System so everything works fine and you have the latest functionalities done.

Can you please show me the command you are using to initiate the tentacle server?

Hello Alberto and thanks for your reply! Smile

Yes i was thinking about reinstalling this system but wanted to use it to get a little bit more comfortable before starting from scratch!
The command i was using to initiate the tentacle server?
I am not quite sure what you mean.
I thought i can just start it by typing "service tentacle_serverd start".

Best regards

Good afternoon pandoranewb,

Its way better to install all from 0 in 730 and CentOS 7, just because many funcionalities have been changed from Pandora 6 to now, so any expertising that you earn now will not be usefull in the updated Pandora.

Yes thats the command i wanted to see. If thats the error that it gives you, it must be that you have the port shutdown.

Good afternoon,

okay, i am going to try the installation as you recommended in a testlab if i have time.
Anyway: can you tell me how i can check the port shutdown and if it is shut down how i  can enable it? Smile

I am new to the unix world and try to learn as much as possible!

Thanks.

Hey,

first of all: i reinstalled the latest version from ISO to a CentOS 7 and in general it works pretty well.

I have a machine with 2 cores, 8 GB of RAM and a 50GB hdd.
Sometimes my agents (Windows Server 2012) just switch the module status to "UNKNOWN". Completely random!

Scenario: 4-5 Windows Server agents installed and configured (just the configuration done while installation of the agent (Server IP, Remote config to 'yes')).
After 5 Minutes everything seems to work fine in pandora web interface.
Than, randomly 1 of the agents switches all modules to 'UNKNOWN'.
I thought 'okay nevermind, just install 1 or 2 other agents to see if it's a genereal problem'.
Than the agent which was unknown went back and gathers data.
10 Minutes later, again it went to 'UNKNOWN'.

I just checked the agent log and it says the following:

2018-12-23 11:18:34 Pandora Agent: Failed when copying to 10.1.101.46

This log entry is in there multiple times.
How can i determine which component stucks?
Is there a log @ the server where i can see if an agent wants to connect but cannot do it?

Tentacle Server and Pandora Server are running fine. (Checked this with service tentacle_serverd status && service pandora_server status)

Hope you guys can help me. Smile

BTW: This problem seems to be always just temporary. Longest period of "no data" was ~2 days. After this time the dataflow went back.

/edit: the server which was in Unknown state went back, but an other one which worked fine till now just went to Unknown now... i have no clue where i should seek for errors. Seems like the pandora server is not good enough. But how is this possible. Big Grin

Good morning pandoranewb,

Can you please attach me the servers log, and an image of status of your server in the Manager Servers page. It could be just because the dataserver has plenty of lag and can´t read the data send by the agent.

Merry Christmas Alberto
